EDUCATION FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN AND YOUTH (EHCY) PROGRAM

A student who: Lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, i.e., doubled up, hotel, camper, living in car, shelter, or lacks adequate housing are provided a free, appropriate public education.

Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school

• Right to immediate enrollment even when records not present

• Right to remain in the school of origin, if in the student’s best interest
