Science

Forensics (2 semesters)
Students deepen their understanding of scientific principles and the very nature of scientific
thinking. Students are introduced to the investigative process used by crime scene
investigators, forensic pathologists, and medical examiners. Topics include Blood Spatter,
Fingerprinting, Document Analysis, Drugs and Toxins, Ballistics, and more.

Biology (2 semesters)
Biology is the study of living systems and their interactions with each other and the Earth. This
course will also examine climate in ecosystems. This class will use the tools of science to
understand the structure and function of organisms from the cellular level to their ecological
relationships. Labs will promote science and engineering skills and practices.

Chemistry (2 semesters)
Students study the structure of matter and chemical reactions with quantitative analysis.
Laboratory work, an integral part of this course, allows the study of the concepts discussed in
the lecture situation.

Zoology - Invertebrate
This biology course examines the classification, structure, and function of animals without a
backbone. Students will cover the changes in animals over time to produce increasingly larger
and more complex organisms.

Zoology - Vertebrate
This biology course examines the classification, structure, and function of animals with a
backbone and their close relatives. Students will cover the changes in vertebrates over time as
they move from water to land.

Physics
Emphasizes the topics of kinetics in one and two dimensions, Newton’s Laws of Motion and
Forces, circular motion, energy, momentum, rotational motion, simple harmonic motion,
mechanical waves, and electricity. Students will learn these topics through inquiry-based
problem-solving, lecture, discussion, experimentation, and mathematics.
